This job was unique because of the advanced rigging required to pick the loads level while utilizing 14 lifting eyes. Critical Lift Plans & Rigging Plans were required for each phase of the job, consisting of 40 hours of project planning & engineering. The scope consisted of removing the existing lid and installing a replacement.
The lids were 65’ in diameter and weighed 83,000 lbs. Using a GMK6400 at a 65’ radius, both lids had to be lifted to a minimum height of 27’ to provide clearance of the surrounding tank structure. In order to avoid wind & weather delays, the work was performed earlier in the morning (6am) to make sure we had a good window to complete the job in safe and economic fashion.
