Kodiak Island Wind Farm
Pillar Mountain Wind Farm located on Kodiak Island, Alaska, is a small project with a big impact on the community. The vision of Kodiak Electric Association is to have 95% of its electricity generated by renewable power by the year 2020. With a hydroelectric plant, three GE 1.5MW towers already installed, and potentially three more in the years to come, they are well on their way to achieving this ambitious goal.
Energy Transportation began transporting our equipment to the port of Seattle, Washington in early April 2009. Working with Samson Tug and Barge, we transported almost two million pounds of equipment to the project on three barges. Tower components arrived on site June 2nd, and mechanical completion was achieved on June 20th with zero punchlist items for all three towers. There were three weather delays, a dented base section, and only one crew to complete all the work. Our team accomplished this working 7 days a week taking advantage of every window the weather would allow.
