The 372,000 lb transformer was originally shipped from California to Casper, WY via rail, and to be utilized as a backup unit for a local sub station. We researched all possible offload locations within Casper. Due to seasonal road construction and bridge work taking place at the time of arrival, we had to utilize back roads, in and out of surrounding companies lots, in order to meet our planned delivery and set dates.
This job was a (3) phase project
Phase 1: Offload the transformer from rail to truck and platform trailer.
Phase 2: Haul the transformer through town from offload location to sub station.
Phase 3: Pick and set transformer on foundation within the sub station.
All aspects of this project were engineered & planned carefully with extensive detail, consisting of more than 50 man hours. Planning involved critical lift plans, ground bearing pressures, axle loads, route surveys, and heavy haul diagrams. We also had help from WYDOT and Wyoming Highway Patrol for traffic control.
